Have you ever had a close encounter with a higher being? That's
what i got when i first heard Kraftwerk. Although i didn't hear kraftwerk
before 1982, it felt like their music had been there all my life. The incredible
sound they had was something i'd never heard before, they were way ahead
of time and was the inspiration for Electro & Techno music. One of
the most respected groups among musicians and artists worldwide. These
4 guys from Germany made an impact on modern music that even Beatles can't
match. If i had to choose a favourite band, it would have been Kraftwerk.
This a beautiful album and was a record that really made me
focus more on the lyrical side of music. This was Tori's debut album as
a solo artist, she had tried earlier in 1988 with the band Y Kant Tori
Read but the record was a flop. This record surely puts her up there
with the best female artist in the world. My favourite track from this
album is Winter.
My favourite hip hop album without a doubt. This record has
the phattest beats and the dopest loops. Kurtis Mantronik, the man behind
the music, really proves that he is the King Of The Beats. A must have
record for any hip hop fan. This is a record i still get goose-bumps while
listening to it, and it's the best medicine to take if you've just heard
Puff Daddy on the radio :-)
A incredible piece of work by Ian Anderson, The #1 folk rocker.
A record i can listen to again and again without tiring my ear. The magnificent
track Aqualung is almost worth buying the album for by itself, but don't
worry the album is filled with great tracks. I advice you to buy the 25th
anniversary edition, it's money well spent.
Next to Mantronix "The Album", this is one of my
all time hip hop favourites. After their debut album Licensed to Ill, most
people thought they were a one hit wonder. I was totally blown away by
this album, i couldn't believe how they could make such a incredible creative
and inovative record. The textures and layers on this record is incredible,
a very advanced record with samples that today would cost a fortune to
clarify. To name a favourite track on this record is a joke...you can't
:-)
Some say they have saved rock music, and i can really understand
why they say it. This album is more than excellent, it's the best rock
album i've heard for a long time. This is one of those records that gets
better and better every time you listen to it. If you don't have this record
in your collection, you must hate music :-)
Some people call them controversial, but i can't see what's
so controversial with the truth!! Once again a masterpiece of an hip hop
album, with phat beats and the well known noises that only PE has. Political
lyrics that also fits well in the world today. I've always been a big fan
of the track "Black steel in the hour of chaos" with that haunting
piano loop that floats though the air.
Although French synth composer Jarre made an excellent debut
in "Oxygene", i still think this record is slightly better. The
sound on this record is very diverse and he uses sampled languages from
all around the world, which makes this album a real global piece of work.
The fantastic Ethnicolor with a build-up that takes your breath away, and
not to forget the illuminating mixing skills of Francois Kervorkian on
Zoolookologie & Zoolook (defnitely my favourite track). And the pumping
beats on Blah Blah Cafe certainly shows that he's capable of making people
bob their head too.
Just as the Beastie Boys no one expected anything after Beck's
debut. But as with The Beasties Paul's Boutique this record blew me away.
And there were more similarities with Paul's Boutique, the producers Dust
Brothers!! They really know how to blend different sounds. And the sounds
on this record goes from country & hip hop to funk & rock...well
you can hear most musical styles in this fantastic album...and ohh my what
a album cover :-)
If not the greatest, Heather sure has one of the finest voices
in the music industry. Her breathtaking voice goes very well on this emotional
ride of an album. To the enchanting track Island, the rocking Sugar &
the pop like Walk This World, this is a very good and diverse album, definitely
one of the best albums by a female artists.
